The realization of an efficient, on-demand, single photon source is an important goal for quantum cryptography and, more generally, for photonic quantum information processing. In this context, we have developed an original approach by inserting an InAs quantum dot inside a GaAs photonic wire. This single-photon source turns out to be very competitive, with a high emission yield and a pure single-photon emission.
