Vortex matter

Published on 13 December 2018

In a magnetic field, for a type II superconductor a mixed state forms where magnetic vortices each carrying one flux quantum penetrate the sample. In the absence of pinning and for an isotropic order parameter, the repulsive interaction between flux lines give rise to a periodic lattice of vortices with a triangular symmetry : the Abrikosov vortex lattice. We have imaged a disordered vortex lattice on the surface of a superconducting boron-doped diamond film. We have scanned a line across the vortex core and observed localized resonant bound states which are unexpected for such a dirty superconductor.
